Who is Benjamin Franklin?
Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston on January 19, 1706. He organized the United States’ first lending library and volunteer fire department. Benjamin's scientific pursuits included investigations into electricity, mathematics and map making. He also helped draft the Declaration of Independence in 1776, and Negotiates, with John Adams and John Jay, the Treaty of Peace with Great Britain in 1782. He was elected to represent Pennsylvania at the Constitutional Convention, which drafted and ratified the new U.S Constitution, and participated in electing George Washington as the country’s first president, inaugurated in April 1789. Benjamin Franklin died on April 17, 1790, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at the home of his daughter, Sarah Bache when he was 84.
